Hello and welcome to the No Way To 33K campaign website. We hope that this website gives you the answers you need on the critical issue of housing in South Gloucestershire and how it’s essential that we work together with South Glos council to hold back Gordon Brown’s bulldozers. Help us to speak with one voice so we can stop Gordon Brown and his Government from forcing 32,800 onto our local communities.”

The key points of the story so far are:

  • All three parties on the council worked out that 21,500 extra houses was the most that South Gloucestershire could take;
  • The South West regional assembly (made up of some councillors and unelected Government appointees) reckoned that South Gloucestershire could cope with around 23,000 extra houses between 2006 and 2026;
  • Unelected Government inspectors reviewed the proposals last year and increased the figure to 30,800;
  • Labour Minister, Hazel Blears, has now increased the South Gloucestershire figure further to 32,800 and there is now 12 weeks of public consultation until 24th October – read on for more details ;

We recognise that there is a need for us to build affordable and social housing for local people – No Way To 33K is not a “Not In My Back Yard” (NIMBY) campaign. However, 32,800 new homes without the supporting infrastructure and services –the radical downgrading of Frenchay hospital is a key part of this – is simply a crazy number to impose and will almost certainly lead to the significant loss of our precious Green Belt.
