The new Filton and Bradley Stoke constituency (Almondsbury, Filton, Bradley Stoke, Downend, Frenchay & Stoke Park, Patchway, Pilning & Severn Beach, Stoke Gifford and Winterbourne)

Jack Lopresti and the No Way To 33K team have key objections to the Government’s proposed levels of additional housing in this area:

  • the separate and distinctive character of different communities, such as Stoke Gifford and Harry Stoke, will be threatened;
  • the radical downgrading of Frenchay hospital means that current and additional residents will not have access to good health services;
  • there will be a significant loss of the Green Belt, as well as loss of valuable wildlife habitats, such as the Hambrook Conservation Area;
  • congestion will get worse on the Avon Ring Road, M4, M32 and other local roads;
  • new homes in this area are likely to be exposed to poor air quality and noise with proximity to Avon Ring Road, M4 and M32;
  • new housing developments gradually encircling Filton airfield could mean the end of Filton’s aerospace industry;
  • Cribbs Causeway is already heavily congested because of the presence of the Mall shopping centre and the motorway junction cannot cope with the additional traffic.

Kingswood ( Bitton, Siston, Emersons Green, Mangotsfield, Staple Hill, Soundwell, Kingswood, Warmley, Cadbury Heath, Oldland Common, Longwell Green and Hanham)

Chris Skidmore and the No Way To 33K team have key objections to the Government’s proposed levels of additional housing in this area:

  • there will be a significant loss of the Green Belt, as well as loss of valuable wildlife habitats, such as the such as the Siston Conservation Area and threats to the new areas of woodland planting around Siston village and at Warmley Forest Park as part of the Forest of Avon;
  • once you start expanding Kingswood eastwards into the Green Belt, when do you stop?
  • the separate and distinctive character of different communities, such as Siston village, will be threatened;
  • the economic and social decline in certain neighbourhoods in Kingswood, Staple Hill and Cadbury Heath will mean that new residents will need to travel to work – adding to existing traffic problems;
  • congestion will get worse on the Avon Ring Road, M4, M32 and other local roads;
  • the radical downgrading of Frenchay hospital means that current and additional residents will not have access to good health services;
  • new homes built in this area are likely to be exposed to poor air quality and noise with proximity to Avon Ring Road, M4 and M32;

 The new Thornbury and Yate constituency ( Boyd Valley, Charfield, Cotswold Edge, Frampton Cotterell, Ladden Brook, Thornbury,, Yate, Chipping Sodbury, Westerleigh and Dodington and Severn )

Matthew Riddle and the No Way To 33K team have key objections to the Government’s proposed levels of additional housing in this area:

  • air quality and noise issues associated with the quarry to the north of Chipping Sodbury/east of Yate and with the main road network;
  • the separate and distinctive character of our different communities, such as Chipping Sodbury, Engine Common, Pucklechurch and Shortwood, will be threatened;
  • the radical downgrading of Frenchay hospital and the continued delays with upgrading Thornbury hospital means that current and additional residents will not have access to good health services;
  • there will be a significant loss of the Green Belt as well as losses of common land to the south and east (Yate Common (formerly known as Westerleigh Common), Kingrove Common, Colts Green and Wapley Bushes and Common);
  • worsening drainage/flooding issues in various areas, such as north of Brimsham Park and east of St John’s Way;
  • infrequency of public transport will force new residents onto local roads meaning that congestion will get worse on local roads;
